Horseshoe To The Head

When Christopher was about six we went to Grandpa's company picnic. We were watching Grandpa in a horseshoe tournament. After it was over everybody started walking away. Christopher was running up to me to ask if he could join another competition. He walked across one of the horseshoe pits. Just as he stepped on it one of the adults picked up a horseshoe and threw it down the lane hitting Christopher in the head. He fell and was out for a minute or so. Of course we took him to the hospital as the skin was broken and being knocked out.
Christopher seemed fine at the hospital as the Dr asked him questions. He had to have a little bit of his head shaved and two stitches. He also had a slight concussion and the Dr suggested we wake him up every hour or two and ask him some questions. Christopher thought it was pretty neat being in the hospital but I think his favorite part was being woken up during the night and asked his name and other questions.
The adult that threw the horseshoe just felt terrible. He apologized to Grandpa and sent a little toy for Christopher to say sorry. We knew it was an accident. The horseshoes should have been picked up after the tournament. That's how we learn.
