A Not~So~Good WalMart Visit

A few years ago on Easter Sunday we were going to a friends house for dinner. We stopped at WM to buy her an Easter Lily. I also brought a cell phone battery and charger (that didn't work) with the receipt expecting a refund. The girl gave me the money for the charger but not the battery. When I questioned her she called the manager over. She informed me that they could not give me a refund b/c the refund time had elapsed. I told her according to the sign it had not and it was ridiculous because the girl gave me a refund for one item on the same receipt. After arguing for a while and hearing her say "I don't know what to tell you" she walked away. I started walking out but thought "she just brushed me off ~ bullshit!" I went back to her and inquired "Did you just walk away from me or are you looking something up?" She let me know she had to get change for another customer. I told her you are already dealing with a customer, are you saying that one is more important? Again she replied "there's nothing I can do for you" "Oh yes you can, you can get someone higher up then you with some good customer service skills" I yelled. She called over the asst store manager. He talked to the girl, then the manager, then handed me my money and apologized. Brendan said "No wonder Chris used to get so embarrassed!". I told him sometimes you just have to remind them the customer is always right. And away we went.

Well, later that day we left early from my friends. I asked Brendan if he wanted to go back to WM and get some pants since I had $40. When checking out I asked the cashier how her day was going. She replied "great. I was able to have an early Easter dinner with my family before I came to work" I told her I was glad she was able to have a nice Easter and thanked her for working the holiday. That seemed to make her day and she told me "Thank you it's not often we get told that" I just smiled.

On the way home I said to Brendan "see how some words of kindness can make someone's day? ... Since we did f*** up the other three people's day". We laughed all the way home.
